The idea to set up RAID-ER initially came from a discussion between two dementia researchers, Dr Hannah Wheat (University of Plymouth) and Dr Sue Molesworth (Keele University). Both Hannah and Sue discussed how there seemed to be unique challenges related to conducting realist dementia research, and how researchers working within this field may benefit from opportunities to meet.
Both Hannah and Sue were NIHR DEM COMM fellows at the time, and were able to use some fellowship funds to act on their discussion by setting up a special interest group.
Since then RAID-ER has continued to grow and the first RAID-ER symposium was held in November, 2024 at the University of Plymouth. The group continues to meet regularly online, and new members are always welcome.
